Mann Nominated to National All-Star Responder Team

Dick Mann has a reputation as a guy who sees a need and takes care of it….he was one of 20 people who volunteered to start a rescue squad in River Hills (Clover,SC) . Thirty years later, Mann, 65, is the only member from that founding group who is still actively taking calls for the River Hills Rescue Squad. In fact, Mann has recently completed his 2,500th response to an emergency in the Lake Wylie area…one of the most for any volunteer in York County.

Mann, a certified paramedic, has taught emergency medical classes at York Technical College for nearly 20 years. A retired executive with General Motors, he now works full-time as a shift supervisor for the Lancaster County EMS program.
In recognition of Dick Mann’s dedication, his colleagues recently nominated him for the 2008 national All-Star First Responder team sponsored by the TV show, “America’s Most Wanted.”

Lanny Bernard (Lancaster County EMS Director) taught Mann his first EMT class. “Sometimes you have students that you recognize as natural givers, Dick was one of those…,” he said. Bernard hired Mann as s paramedic and then promoted him to shift supervisor.
